My first memory of school was standing at the bus stop with the babysitter and my sister. I remember watching my sister as she entered the school bus. The sitter and I were supposed to wave good-bye. Instead, I started crying and running after the bus. I wanted to go to school because my sister made it sound like so much fun when she came home.

FIVE QUESTIONS TO ASK

Creating a meaningful data room can be daunting at times. We all know how important it is to use data when making instructional decisions. But what data and how much should we use?
The Return on Your Invested InTime Is Priceless
By Patricia Clarkson
I think it was about the year 2000 when I was first introduced to the concept of student data talks. At that time they were called “Cara A Cara” which in English means” Face to Face”. The concept was, if you share students’ scores with the individual student and on a deeper level the student will take ownership of improvement. Sounds great, right?
A campus data room is a very powerful place. It can also be a place of intimidation. If a campus has and effectively uses a data room campus scores will increase. This belief is support by Education World article Using Data Rooms to Map Your Way to Success. There is no doubt in any educators’ mind about the power of data driven decision making. So why are so many teachers reluctant to embrace the concept of a data room?
Keeping a campus safe and successful can be daunting at times. Several years ago, I broke up a fight between two girls. Of course there was hair flying, screaming, scratching and heaven help us if we get caught in the middle trying to break it up.
When the girls finally got to my office, of course they came in individually or there may have been another fight in my office. I asked each how the fight got started. They both had the same story.
Are you pumped up and ready for an exciting new school year?
While I was on vacation in Poland, I saw a water pump in the middle of the town. Of course I had to try it. Let me tell you, pumping water is HARD WORK.
Beginning of the school year speech.
"If you are teaching students, secure your oxygen mask first and then assist students."
Pre-Flight safety speech, “If you are travelling with a child or someone who requires assistance, secure your mask on first, and then assist the other person.”
I was relaxed and waiting for my flight to take off.
As campus leaders, principals often are told, "That's why you get the big buck." I don't know what big bucks they were talking about. Maybe the bucks were hidden away for a rainy day. If they were, would someone please bring on the rain so I can get the BIG BUCKS!
